Swedish Apple Cake 🍎🍰
Ingredients 🍎🍰
– 2 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced thinly 🍏
– 1 tablespoon lemon juice 🍋
– 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 🍞
– 1 cup granulated sugar 🍚
– 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened 🧈
– 2 large eggs 🥚
– 1/2 cup milk 🥛
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 🍦
– 1 teaspoon baking powder 🧁
– 1/4 teaspoon salt 🧂
– 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 🌰
– 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg 🌰
– Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional) 🍩
Preparation 🍳
1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan or a similar-sized baking dish.
2. Prepare Apples: In a bowl, toss the apple slices with lemon juice to prevent browning. Set aside.
3. Prepare Cake Batter: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
4. Assemble Cake: Pour half of the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Arrange half of the apple slices over the batter. Pour the remaining batter over the apples and spread evenly. Arrange the remaining apple slices on top of the batter.
5. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the top is golden brown.
6. Cool and Serve: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Dust with powdered sugar before serving, if desired.
