Instructions
- Preheat Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook the Meat:
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary, then season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Prepare the Sauce:
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour to create a roux and cook for about 1 minute. Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens (about 5-7 minutes). Remove from heat and stir in 1 cup of the shredded cheese until melted.
- Layer the Ingredients:
- In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, followed by half of the cooked meat mixture. Pour half of the cheese sauce over this layer. Repeat with the remaining potatoes, meat, and cheese sauce.
- Bake:
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil, sprinkle the remaining cheese on top, and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is bubbly.
- Serve:
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your scalloped potatoes and hamburger!
