Ingredients:
– 1 pound ground beef
– 4 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
– 1 large onion, chopped
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
– 1 cup milk
– 1/2 cup beef broth
– 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
– 2 tablespoons butter
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
– 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
Preparation:
1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).
2. Cook the beef: In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and cook until the onion is soft.
3. Prepare the sauce: In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes. Gradually add the milk and beef broth, whisking constantly until the sauce thickens. Season with salt, black pepper, and dried thyme.
4. Layer the ingredients: In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, then spread half of the cooked ground beef mixture over the potatoes. Pour half of the sauce over the beef. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, beef, and sauce.
5. Add cheese: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top.
6. Bake: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
7. Serve: Let the casserole cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm!
