Everyone knows Maryland is famous for well, its crabs.

But what can you make with crabs?

Crab cakes of course! These simple, bite-sized snacks are filled with some amazing, savory favors that really work well. They’re perfect for crab lovers galore out there making it something that will definitely improve the way you think of crab.

They’re simple, savory, and are perfect for those of us who just really like cake, and who also are big fans of this as well.

INGREDIENTS:

1 large egg
2½ tablespoons mayonnaise (I like Hellman’s Real)
1½ teaspoons Dijon mustard (I like Maille brand)
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ cup finely diced celery (you’ll need one stalk)
2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley
1 pound lump crab meat*
½ cup panko (I like the Whole Foods 365 brand for this recipe)
Canola oil

Steps

First, cover a baking sheet with some foil.

Take the mayo, egg, the mustard, the old bay, the Worcestershire, parsley, and the celery, putting it all together and then mixing it together.

Put the crab meat in there and add it, making sure that you check for any cartilage that’s hard or sharpened.

From there, add in the panko, and then, fold everything together until it’s fully combined.

Do be careful not to break the crab meat, but take the current mixture, and from there shape this into about 6 different crab cakes, about half an inch each, and then, put it on a baking sheet that’s prepared.

Put it back in the fridge and then let it sit there for an hour.

When it’s time, heat up a skillet with some canola oil on the medium heat, and then, put the crab cakes into there, cooking them until they become a nice, golden brown, about five minutes each side. Do be careful because the oil is hot, and it does splatter.

Serve it with a lemon squeeze, or some tartar sauce. You can either make some of your own as a homemade sauce, or you can buy it.

Quick Tartar Sauce

Ingredients:

1 cup mayonnaise
1½ tablespoons sweet pickle relish
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon minced red onion
1-2 tablespoons lemon juice, to taste
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

To make this, put all of the ingredients together, and have it all sit in a small bowl.

Once this is done, you can cover it, and then put it back in the fridge until it’s time to serve it.

When it’s time to serve, take a bit of the sauce, put it on the plate with the crab cakes. Some people like to drizzle it on top of there, but not everyone’s into that, so you’ll have to just put it on the side and let them do it at their own discretion.

There you have it, simple Maryland crab cakes that you can enjoy!
