Cabbage Fritters Recipe

Ingredients

  • 3 cups cabbage, finely shredded
  • 1 small carrot, grated
  • 1/2 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for extra crispiness)
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Vegetables:
    • In a large bowl, combine the shredded cabbage, grated carrot, chopped onion, and minced garlic.
  2. Make the Batter:
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, flour, breadcrumbs (if using), baking powder, salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, and ground cumin until well combined.
  3. Combine Ingredients:
    • Pour the egg mixture over the vegetables and mix well until everything is evenly coated. Stir in the chopped parsley.
  4. Heat the Oil:
    • In a large skillet, heat about 1/4 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  5. Form the Fritters:
    • Using a spoon or your hands, scoop about 2 tablespoons of the mixture and shape it into a small patty. Repeat with the remaining mixture.
  6. Fry the Fritters:
    • Carefully place the patties in the hot oil, a few at a time, making sure not to overcrowd the skillet. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
    • Transfer the fritters to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
  7. Serve:
    • Serve the fritters hot, garnished with additional fresh parsley if desired. They are delicious on their own or with a dipping sauce such as sour cream, tzatziki, or a spicy mayo.
