Ingredients
1 can salmon, 14.75 oz
1/3 c bread crumbs
2 green onions, chopped
1/4 c chopped celery
1/4 c mayonnaise
1 egg, beaten
4 Tbsp butter, for frying
lemon and dill, for garnish
Steps
Get your salmon and drain the juices from the can. If you’re using fresh salmon, you can remove the skin and bones from this.
Get a big bowl and combine the bread crumbs, the salmon, mayonnaise, celery, and the egg that’s beaten. Mix all of this together until everything is properly combined
Shape this into patties. Usually, you can get four out of this, or you can make them a bit smaller.
Get a pan and sauté these by melting the butter on low heat, and then adding the patties to this
Crank up the heat to medium and then cook these until the patty is golden brown on all sides, and everything is cooked through all the way
Serve this with some potatoes that are cut up, some cream gravy, a hardboiled egg, or some dill pickles.
Tips
should I use fresh salmon or canned salmon?
Some people like canned salmon for convenience, and that’s totally fine to use. If you’ve got leftover salmon, go for it and use that.
As for fresh salmon, it’s a little more expensive, which is why some people might be against this, but it’s a great food to have on hand, especially if you want to make your salmon patties truly fresh and taste amazing in the process as well.
What’s the best item to serve with this?
It ultimately depends. They go great with a small salad, or if you like dill pickles, adding a little bit of lemon juice and dill seed along with the pickles is never a bad thing.
Some people like to have an egg that’s hard-boiled or some potatoes and gravy on the side. Whatever you choose is ultimately up to you, just some hearty dishes since this is a hearty food.
Can you save these for the next day?
You sure can! They sit well in the fridge. While I don’t recommend freezing, letting this sit in the fridge is never a bad thing, and there are a lot of great ways for you to get the most out of this, and to truly master the salmon patty cooking art that you know and love.
It’s best to put them on a burger, or even on a sandwich for lunch the next day if you’re going to make salmon patties to save for tomorrow.
