Chicken and dumplings is a great, hearty dish that so many people love because of how good it is, and how tasty it can be. But is it easy to make in a crock pot?

It sure is, and here, we’ll give you some great ways for you to add this to your crock pot to really make this actually stand out, and taste good too.

INGREDIENTS

3 cloves garlic, minced

Kosher salt

2 (10.5-oz.) cans cream of chicken soup

2 c. low-sodium chicken broth

2 large carrots, peeled and chopped

Freshly ground black pepper

1 bay leaf

2 stalks celery, chopped

1 (16.3-oz.) can refrigerated biscuits

1 1/4 lb. boneless skinless chicken breasts

4 sprigs fresh thyme

1 onion, chopped

1 c. frozen peas, thawed

1 tsp. dried oregano

Steps:

  1. Get the onion and then put it on the bottom portion of a large slow cooking container, and then add the chicken over the top of it. Season this with pepper, oregano, and salt to flavor it.
  2. Add the broth and the soup on top of the chicken, and then the bay leaf and the thyme, then cook and cover this on a high temperature until the chicken is fully cooked, usually about 3 hours on high, but a little bit longer on low heat.
  3. Once this is done, get rid of the thyme and the bay leaf from this, and then get the fork, shredding this. Add in the peas, the celery, the carrots, and the garlic, and then add small biscuits into this too, and then have the lurid get spooned over any biscuits that are moving towards the top.
  4. Cook all of this on high until the biscuits ae fully cooked and the vegetables have become tender. This should take about an hour to an hour and thirty, and you should open it to stir about every 30 minutes or so to get everything evenly cooked.

Tips

Do I need to use cream of chicken soup in this?

Cream of chicken soup is something that really has a great flavor to this, and it enhances it. If you don’t like it though, you can always use a copycat to actually help with this, however, canned stuff is really good if you’re looking for convenience.

Can I make my own dumplings?

Of course! You can use canned ones if it’s easy for you, but if you want to use your own biscuits to make these nice and flaky, then you’re in luck, for this is something that really does enhance this, and make it taste amazing too.

Do biscuits do well in the slow cooker?

Yes, but you should not put them in until after the chicken mixture has mostly cooked. The last hour is when they should be added to this since this lets them “bake” so it will let them rise as well. They will need a little bit longer though so that they’re totally cooked as well, and it can all mix together.

Can this be put in the fridge?

Yes it can! The cool thing about this is that the biscuits won’t have a hard texture to them due to the liquid. As long as you heat them up in the microwave, or the slow cooker and stove, you’ll be able to have some great homemade chicken and dumplings and some good leftovers too.
